It's Carnival!

While we celebrate Epiphany (the fourth major feast of the Christmas season) on a Sunday, traditionally Epiphany is January 6th, the Twelfth Day of Christmas.  Epiphany is also the beginning of the Carnival Season.  Carnival is not a liturgical season on the Church’s Calendar.  But is does have many connections with our faith.  The word carnival literally means farewell to the flesh. The carnival season lasts from Epiphany Sunday through Shrove Tuesday (or Mardi Gras), the day before Ash Wednesday.

This year, Shrove Tuesday/Mardi Gras is February 16th.  Here at Annunciation Parish, we are getting ready for our annual Shrove Tuesday Evening Prayer/Burning of Palm, Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper, and Mardi Gras Celebration.  Plan to join us on Tuesday, February 16th from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
